Infantino and the FIFA World Cup hosting rotation

Infantino and the FIFA World Cup hosting rotation

Dr.Mohamed Fadlalla

Infantino has been always mentioning capabilities regarding the formulations and regulations which without any doubt require capabilities and skills of a special kind,

especially the sports regulations and legislation due to their association with several magazines and their diversity for many of the organizational, administrative and sports matters.

Infantino faces a major legislative change that will certainly be discussed at the FIFA executive committee meeting next January, in Marrakech, Morocco.

This legislative change is linked to two very important axes

The first axis is:

- increasing the number of participating teams in the World Cup according to the Infantino’s idea: “the Romance of football”, which reflects so that the largest number of countries can enjoy the passion of football in the biggest sport event in the world: the FIFA World Cup;

The second axis is:

- is modifying the system of continental rotation in hosting the World Cup, although the idea is not new it has been always a subject for discussion without taking steps of implementing it. But now, Infantino with his legal and legislative vision certainly will take a positive move to solve this problem.

That would be a major shift for such great tournament by increasing the number of teams and making an end to the continental rotation in hosting the World Cup.

Now the process of selecting the World Cup host starting from the 2026 World Cup will be depend on the absolute competitiveness between the different countries according to the readiness, economic fundamentals, the ability to organize, the constructional preparations and many other criteria.

Infantino aims to achieve many advantages:

1- Increasing the economic resources and financial flows via organizing the World Cup.

2- Awarding the World Cup hosting to those who meet the criteria required by FIFA.

3- Making it easier for all countries to bid for hosting the World Cup.

4- Achieving the target of the international alliances in organizing the World Cup which could feature more than one country from more than one continent at the same time.

5- Increasing the competitiveness of countries when bidding for hosting the event which will push them to develop their football-related infrastructure.

Observing the legal, legislative and regulatory performance of Infantino concerning the development of international football requires continuous analysis since his approach is based not only on the idea of building strong legislation but an integrative approach regarding the legislative, social, legal, societal, political and moral aspects.

Now we are waiting for the outcomes of the meetings of the FIFA Executive Committee which will focus on the mentioned decisions and analyses...
