International alliances and the future of international sports organizations

Dr. Mohamed Fadlalla

International sports organizations have been focusing for a long time on a very important principle under which many of the philosophies of these organizations are based in constructing the legal systems

and regulations that manage their movements towards the organization of tournaments and international events. The principle is that sports and management are beyond the range of the international borders.

This principle is formulated within the Olympic Charter in non-discrimination in sports practice, which always emphasizes that sport must overcome all barriers and obstacles. Infantino also emphasizes the principle of keeping sport away from the national borders which is an important vision that FIFA has established for the alliance of nations to host the world’s most important football events (US, Canada and Mexico). This is how Infantino used to do when he was the UEFA secretary general.

This means a set of changes will occur. When the allied countries are involved in a big event such as the World Cup, it represents a kind of skipping for that power because the matches will be a partnership between the countries that have joined together in organizing the event.

This principle was implemented by Europe more than once in the UEFA European Championship and it was the aim of the European Union in removing all borders between the European countries.

These international alliances also help support the economic and investment components by organizing the most important football championship, the FIFA World Cup because of course hosting the event in only one country is certainly different from hosting it in more than one.

Another point is that Infantino has aimed many times at giving the honor of hosting the FIFA World Cup to the biggest number of countries as the tournament is held once every four years based on the concept of “romance of football”.

This action would not be achieved unless more than one country co-host the event, noting that the 2026 edition will be hosted by three countries. We have to point here that each of these countries could have hosted the tournament in a 12 years period according to the normal old method of the host selection process.

On the other hand, now the World Cup will be involve 48 participating nations, which requires the organizing committee to prepare a large number of stadiums for hosting and training, which is very difficult within the capabilities of many countries, so we should seek in the #Arab world to establish strong alliances in the region in order to host such a major event like the FIFA World Cup and maybe the International Olympic Committees could adopt such method to host the Olympic Games in the future.
